Double Mountain Brewery is excited to team up with Northwest Rafting Company for the return of our 5th Brews with Views trip down the Rogue River. Between the action packed river, beautiful scenery, and the laid back evenings at camp drinking some of the best beers the Northwest has to offer, you can’t go wrong.
Each year Double Mountain Brewery brings a variety of beers consisting of the four year round beers: Kolsch, Vaporizer, IRA, and Hop Lava, along with whatever is new and exciting. Most of the specialty beers that accompany the trip can only be found at the taproom which makes it even more special. Last year, 2013, we brought Homestead Pale along with brewer Greg Balch who created this mouthwatering brew. Homestead is classic Northwest pale ale, with hop aroma and flavor from Simcoes and Centennials and a hefty dose of Vienna malt to help provide some medium-bodied balance. It was designed to be both satisfying and highly drinkable after a long day’s labor 5.4% ABV, 50 BU. We also brought a device called a Randle that allows beer to flow through a clear pressurized chamber filled with whatever delicious hop or fruit you would like to infuse your beer with. Last year we used sterling hops with Vaporizer, which everyone enjoyed. On the 2012 trip, we brewed a beer at the brewery called Free Ride specifically for the rafting trip. This brew was bitter enough to satisfy hopheads, but light enough for the daily drinker to enjoy a few in the sun. 4.9% ABV, 50 BU. On the 2011 trip, Owner/Brewmaster Matt Swihart brewed a beer on the trip using river water, yeast, malt, hops, and his tee shirt as a filter. This is still the only beer Double Mt has ever filtered!
At camp the guides create meals on the river that you will never forget. The steak and burgers pair great with the IRA and Hop Lava while the salmon paired fantastic with Kolsch and Vaporizer. Whichever beer you choose you will be satisfied. Whether you are lounging at camp, playing on a standing wave, learning to SUP, jumping off cliffs or playing adventure bocce, the Brews with Views trip is a one of a kind experience that everyone should enjoy at least once in their life.
