“DOUBLEHEADER BEER RELEASE at the VICTORY”
Victory Bar, 3652 SE Division St., Portland
Thursday Jan 27, 6-10pm
When is “too much of a good thing”… a good thing? Answer: when it involves a pile of special beers at the Victory! Yoni, Eric and the whole crew invite you to a special evening with new offerings from a pair of classic brewers old and new.
The party kicks off from 6-8pm with beers from Mort Subite, the venerable Belgian brewery that specializes in spontaneously-fermented Lambic beers. Mort Subite was out of the market for awhile, so it’s nice to see them back. They have two cool kegs to feature: “Blanche” (described as a unique “wit lambic”, 4.5% abv); and their classic “Kriek” (lambic aged on sour cherries in oak barrels, also 4.5% abv). Victory will also be tapping a keg of “Maes Pils”, a Saaz-accented pilsner (5.2% abv) brewed by the same brewer (Alken-Maes) that now owns Mort Subite. Maes is the second-best-selling beer in Belgium behind Stella Artois.
Then from 8-10pm, the Double Mountain crew will kick it up a notch with our latest limited-release creation: the wonderfully alliterative “Tripel Nipel”. Brewed with Gambrinus pilsner malt, local wildflower honey and Chimay yeast, the Nipel is a silky-strong (9+% abv) bruiser with beautifully balanced abbey-style flavors. We will be raffling off some wearables and goblet glassware as well.
In honor of this embarrassment of riches, chef Eric will be preparing some pan-roasted mussels, braised with one or more of the special beers. He already makes some of the best Belgian fries around.
Get ready for a big night, beer lovers!
PS Never fear Hood River people: we’ll be tapping the first kegs of the Tripel at the Taproom this Tuesday afternoon. Home field advantage!
