Greetings great beer fans-
Tomorrow is our eight year anniversary/street/St. Patrick’s Day party in Hood River. I just get giddy this time of year and overwhelmed with the tremendous support of what we do from our local Hood River community. When Charlie and I opened the doors on Patty’s Day, 2007, we had one small room to pour beer, a ratty old orange couch on the street (now in my office), two of our beers on tap, and debt piled from here to Milwaukee.
We almost closed the brewery three times that year from financial pitfalls that happen with any struggling business. We refused to let that happen, worked longer, worked harder, and grew our staff with ever more dedicated people.
A staff of 5 people opened that day and all our spouses/friends volunteered to help do dishes and pour beer. Today we employ 70-80 people, have health insurance, a profit sharing plan, vacations, and a goddamn employee handbook (haven’t read it, violate it regularly). This wonderful little brewery just wouldn’t exist without Hood River and the fabulous beer drinkers that have allowed myself, Greg, Kyle, Cough, Chris, Andrew, Zach to experiment with recipes and new ideas on your palates.
Let tomorrow be my personal thank you to all of Hood River and those who have supported us far and wide. Come on down, enjoy the music, have a beer, or an Oh-Man Root Beer. Toasts yourselves, toast Owen, toast your friends that aren’t with you, toast this amazingly great town we live and love in.
